Detailed description

The Lefortovo Palace is located near the museum of the Bauman Moscow State Technical University. The building was built in 1696-1699. Peter the Great built it for Admiral Franz Lefort, but after his death he held receptions in the palace. In 1706, Peter the Great gave the palace to Count Alexander Menshikov. Under Menshikov, the palace was rebuilt and expanded. The building also housed the Central Military Historical Archive of the USSR, which was eventually renamed the Russian State Military Historical Archive. The archive in the palace exists to this day, it is recognized as a particularly valuable cultural heritage site.
