Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in the Patriarchal Compound

The patriarchal Compound, together with the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, was built in 2002-2003 in the pseudo-Russian style. The Patriarchal Church is part of the complex, which includes the Church on Blood and the chapel of Elizabeth Feodorovna. On November 27, 2002, the foundation stone of the complex was laid, and on June 5, 2003, the dome and cross of the church were consecrated by Archbishop Vikenty of Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturye. The completed building includes a huge spiritual and educational complex with a library, lecture halls and a video room. The four side chapels of the main volume are crowned by five domes on cylindrical light drums. A semicircular altar apse adjoins the temple from the east. The facade is decorated with arches. The Church of St. Nicholas is painted in the Old Russian style. The walls and dome were painted by the famous Ural icon painter belonging to the workshop of T.F. Vodicheva. Today, the patriarchal Compound is not only a cathedral, but also a museum complex. The museum part contains exhibits dedicated to the last months of the life of the emperor and his family.
