Chapel of Elisaveta Feodorovna and Varvara the Holy Martyrs
Detailed description
The small wooden chapel has an octagonal shape. It was built in 1992 near the Church on the Blood. The chapel was erected in honor of Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna Romanova. She was the wife of Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich, the brother of Emperor Alexander III of Russia. The Princess converted to the Orthodox faith and was actively involved in charity work. After the tragic death of her husband, she renounced secular life and devoted her life to the Lord through service to people. On July 18, 1918, she was martyred together with Nun Barbara. Both were canonized as holy New Martyrs of Russia.
