Pugachevskaya Tower
Detailed description
The history of the detention center began in 1771, when Catherine II gave the task to build a large prison in Moscow. He built Butyrka in the form of a classic castle with four towers, and the configuration of the building has remained unchanged to this day. The first prisoner was Cossack chieftain Yemelyan Pugachev, who was awaiting his execution here. In this tower, in Pugachev's cage, terrible traitors were held captive after he was taken to Moscow. Even shackled, he continued to terrify the Russian elite of the time, so they took him not to St. Petersburg, but to the ancient capital and threw him into the most secure dungeon.
