The mansion of Count Sergei Yulievich Witte
Detailed description
Until the end of the 19th century, a wooden building stood here. In April 1898, the city council gave permission to the next owner, K.F. Stremberg, to build a three-story stone house here. The building was designed by architect Ernest Frantsevich Wirrich. In 1898, the estate was acquired by M.I. Witte, the wife of Sergei Witte, one of the most famous politicians of Imperial Russia. After the revolution, a children's dispensary worked in the mansion, and in 1935 a children's music school was transferred here. The famous violinist and conductor V. Spivakov graduated from it. On June 23, 1999, a memorial plaque was erected on the facade of the mansion with the inscription: "The famous Russian figure Sergei Yurievich Witte lived here from 1899 to 1915."
