Detailed description

The manor that used to be here occupied almost the entire odd-numbered side of the alley. It is assumed that the main house was built by Major General I. I. Divov in the late 1750s. Pilaster Corinthian porticos with pediments and intertwined garlands in the friezes decorate the facades. Behind the house there was a large garden with a square-shaped pond not far from the Earthen Rampart. After Divov's death, the heirs sold the estate in 1783 to Naryshkin V. S. The estate began to bear his name. Later, the house passed first to General P.N. Ivashev at the beginning of the 19th century, then it was bought by the orthopedic Institute, which existed here almost until the middle of the century. Gradually, the building was expanded with various extensions, as a result of which the clarity of its rectangular volume was lost. Subsequently, various hospitals were permanently housed in the building. In October 1909, a monument to the "doctor of the poor", F.P. Haase, was unveiled in the courtyard of the hospital, which at that time became known as the Emperor Alexander III. On the pedestal of the monument, the sculptor N. A. Andreev wrote the words of F. P. Haaz: "Hurry up to do good." The sculptor did not charge anything for his work.
