Detailed description
Shchukin's estate is located in Znamenskiy Lane, the house belonged to the family since 1752. Captain Nikolai Shakhovskoy, noblemen Alexei Stolypin and Prince Ivan Trubetskoy lived here. In 1882, merchant Ivan Shchukin purchased this house and handed it over to his son Seryozha. At the beginning of the revolution, there was a private gallery of Impressionist paintings here, and after the October Revolution, the first new museum of Western art was created on its basis. After the end of the war, the museum's collection was divided between the Hermitage and the Pushkin State Museum, and the mansion was transferred to the Ministry of Defense.
