The mansion of the Board of Trustees of the P.R. Maksimov House of Diligence
Detailed description
The mansion is designated as a historical and cultural heritage as a monument of urban planning and architecture. The decision to place the facility under state protection was made in 1998.
The mansion is part of the house of Diligence, built on the donation of merchant Peter Romanovich Maximov. A friend of the Maximov family, Ivan Stepanovich Levanidov, was involved in the construction of this institution. It was Levanidov who created the Board of Trustees. Many people helped him in this. There were people of different classes and affluence among them. They decided to take care of “providing honest work and shelter to the homeless, released from hospital, prison, and all those who have fallen into extreme poverty.”
The institution differed from other flophouses and almshouses in that it provided shelter, food and the opportunity to learn a trade.
During the First World War, the building housed an infirmary. After the revolution, the premises were transferred to the Rostov State Medical Institute.
