Export grain warehouses, building No. 4

One of the 5 complexes of storage facilities of the XIX century, designed for grain storage, is located on the embankment of the Don. The warehouses miraculously survived the bombing of the port during the Second World War. However, one of the bombs hit the warehouse and destroyed the water cooling system. At the end of the Soviet Union, the warehouse was used for its intended purpose, it stored cement and building materials. A unique natural feature of the facility is a spring flowing year-round from the slopes of the Don shore. The engineers collected spring water in vats and passed these vats through the warehouse. The temperature of the spring water in Paramonov's warehouse was +18°C in winter and summer. This drainage system kept the temperature in the warehouse low and favored grain storage. Round openings between the floors are still preserved on the facade of the warehouse. They were used to transfer grain from the ground floor to the embankment level through the arms of the awnings. From here, the grain was loaded onto barges and shipped abroad. In 1985, the Paramonov warehouse complex was awarded the status of an important monument of the region's history and culture. Subsequently, the building received the status of a monument of federal significance.
