The tenement house of Duke Nikolai Nikolaevich of Leuchtenberg
Detailed description
The house was built for Duke Nicholas Nikolaevich of Leuchtenberg in 1904-1905.
The dominant feature of the main facade is a large mosaic frieze consisting of 5 large mosaic panels. The mosaic is placed between the windows of the 5th floor and practically covers the entire wall of the building.
For the first time, the building depicted a landscape - fields, hills, a river, urban buildings.
The selection of colors according to the principle of "pointillism" is applied based on the optical mixing of colors at a specific height. The seams set off the outlines and edges of the color spots. Smalt panels do not have classical frames and fill the entire free surface of the upper floor. Four triangular glass lanterns embedded in the rectangle of the facade seem to break the horizontal of the cornice. This alternation of glowing smalt panels with transparent glass lanterns gives an additional effect. The relief decor of the house is striking in its intricate originality.
In 2001, the building was officially included in the "List of newly identified objects of historical, scientific, artistic or other cultural value"
