The main house of the city estate of I.I. Vorontsov
Detailed description
The two-story main house was a remodeling of a 17th-century building. After the fire of 1812, only the main house and one stone wing remained in the estate, which were renovated. By 1858, the estate had passed to Alexei Stepanovich Protopov, a merchant of the first guild, who owned a wax factory. The buildings were not rented out as part of the territory until the revolution of 1917. During the Soviet period, part of the territory was seized for the construction of a school, and some buildings were demolished. The main building housed the Republican Council of the All-Union Trade Union Voluntary Physical Culture and Sports Society. The facade of the main building consists of three parts, accentuated by central risoliths. On the ground floor there are three tall windows framed by architraves. The rich lissarate ornament hides the asymmetrical composition of the main facade, which differs from classicism. The building currently houses the Spartak House of Tourism and Sports.
