Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Sokolniki
Detailed description
The church is built in the Art Nouveau style. The foundation stone was laid by Metropolitan Vladimir of Moscow and Kolomna, who died in Kiev in 1917. Five years later, the Resurrection Church was completed and consecrated by Metropolitan Macarius of Moscow and Kolomna in 1913.
The construction of the Church was initiated by John Kedrov, the archpriest of Moscow, who became the first rector. Therefore, the Church is often called Kedrovskaya.
The two-storey nine-domed church has the shape of a cross. The details in the temple have a symbolic meaning. So 9 domes were built in honor of the 9 Angelic Orders that stand before the Throne of God. The drums of the cupolas are encircled by Abramtsevo tiles of heavenly color. The main vault is covered from the inside with voicing devices that enhance the sound of the choir.
