The apartment house of G.A. Shultz
Detailed description
A five-storey historical building erected on Kuibyshev Street in St. Petersburg, designed by architect Schmidt. The house is built on a trapezoid-shaped plot and is a square. The entire facade of the building is lined with red and yellow opaque bricks, which were not covered with plaster. In Art Nouveau buildings, glossy facing bricks of cool tones were most often used. In the front part of the house on each floor there are two large apartments, which are accessed by two exit stairs. Metal parts, acting in different qualities, play a significant role in the composition. The twisting steel bands of gates, umbrellas and roof fences betray the early modern craving for decorative stylization, adherence to the cult of the curved line. But there are also unmasked iron beams on the facade. They cover all the windows, starting from the second floor, and the span of the gateway, support the bases of the bay windows and umbrellas at the front. Currently, the building is included in the Unified State Register of Cultural Heritage Sites of the Peoples of the Russian Federation.
