The fire department and the police department of the Petrovsky part
Detailed description
The fire department building, built between 1872 and 1874 under the direction of architect N. F. Brullo in collaboration with R. B. Bernhard, has three floors and is made of red brick without plaster. The facade of the building attracts attention with its ledge, which turns into a tall tower. The height of the tower reaches 26 meters, starting from the ground and ending at the observation deck. The hard soils at the construction site made it difficult to erect the foundation, so it was laid from tarred logs, a certain number of layers approximately one meter thick.
On the ground floor of the building there are rooms for wagons, a pantry, workshops and a communal kitchen. Barracks and apartments of fire protection officers are located on the second and third floors. Inside the courtyard of the building there is a stone two-storey police department house, stables and a hangar for a steam fire engine, as well as a blacksmith shop, laundry and an icehouse. The inherent features of the tower allow it to disconnect from the rest of the building.
