The house was best known for its connection with the famous Faberge jewelry company: in 1898, Carl Faberge, a hereditary honorary citizen of St. Petersburg and a merchant of the second guild, bought it from Major General Zolotov for 407,000 rubles. Soon after, the house was rebuilt according to the design of Faberge's cousin, architect K.K. Schmidt.

Дом был наиболее известен благодаря своей связи со знаменитой ювелирной фирмой Фаберже: в 1898 году Карл Фаберже — потомственный почетный гражданин Санкт-Петербурга и купец второй гильдии, купил его у  генерал-майора Золотова за 407000 рублей. Вскоре после этого дом был перестроен по проекту двоюродного брата Фаберже, архитектора К.К.Шмидта.
