Provincial houses
Detailed description
The houses are located opposite the Summer Garden and were built in the early 18th century. The idea of their creation belonged to Peter the Great, who was inspired by Amsterdam and dreamed of creating something similar in Kronstadt. The buildings were built at the expense of local provinces, hence they got their name. They are three-storey stone structures with six-meter basements. The first floors were given over to retail shops, the rest for housing and household needs. Initially, arches were provided in the houses, under which the Living rooms were located. They were laid down later, but their outlines are still visible through the plaster. The houses are famous for their guests. It was here that Bellingshausen, Admiral Lisovsky, Admiral Makarov, Admiral Litke and many other famous figures of the Navy lived.
