Beklemishevskaya Tower
Detailed description
The Beklemishevskaya Tower was built in 1487-1488. The courtyard of boyar Beklemishev adjoined the territory of the Kremlin, and that is why the tower has such a name. Under Vasily III, the courtyard and the tower were transformed into a prison for dangerous boyars. Currently, the tower is named Moskvoretsky Bridge.
The tower was in a defensive role, it protected the Kremlin from enemy forces. She was the first to receive the blow, as she was located at the junction of the Moskva River and the moat. It had a white stone base, a long rounded cylinder with wide loopholes, an observation deck, and a rumor cache in the basement of the tower for detecting excavation.
In 1680, the dome was completed, which gave it a modern look.
The height of the tower is 46 meters.
