The apartment house of the merchant D.I. Kazansky
Detailed description
The design of Nizhny Novgorod's Theater Square began in 1894, when the construction of the new drama theater began. According to the authorities, the square in the city center should have exclusively stone buildings. As a result, merchant D. I. Kazansky was forced to change his former possessions and rebuild two houses, a brick and a wooden one, which were located next to the new theater. In 1906, Architect S.A. Levkov developed a plan for a new building at the request of Kazansky. He designed a three-storey house with an attic at the top in the Art Nouveau style. The architecture of this building was distinguished by complex decorative elements: ornamental reliefs, colored tiles lining the ground floor and wrought-iron balcony railings. They are currently not preserved.
