Alexander Nevsky Cathedral
Detailed description
On August 22, 1814, the construction process of the first temple was started, in honor of Russia's victory in the Patriotic War of 1812. However, due to various reasons, its construction was lengthy and the original design changed. As a result, a small two-story two-story church was built, which was consecrated on June 26, 1832.
The five-domed cathedral has a square shape with an apse on the east side and porticoes on the south and north. There is a bell tower on the west side. Inside the building there are four hexagonal pillars dividing the cathedral into five parts, and the acoustics inside are sonorous. The facade of the cathedral is decorated with large six-columned porticoes with smooth pediments and Corinthian pilasters on the walls behind the porticoes and corners of the main volume. The architectural composition is characterized by clear proportions between the volumes of buildings, bell towers and domes.
Currently, the Yekaterinburg Diocese fully controls the cathedral, after the building underwent a complete reconstruction. On May 19, 2013, the consecration ceremony of the cathedral was held.
