Astrakhan Barracks
Detailed description
The Astrakhan barracks were built in 1908 for the twelfth Grenadier regiment of Tsar Alexander III. Later, the school was reorganized into the Lenin Military-Political Academy, and in 1940 a military school was established there to train military specialists in teaching German, English and French in schools and academies of the Red Army. Later it was renamed the Military School of Western Languages, and in 1942 -the College of Foreign Languages of the Red Army. Not only European, but also Oriental languages were taught here, and in 1994 the Military University of the Ministry of Defense was established to train military economists, lawyers, linguists, commanders and other specialists. Since 2003, civilians have had the opportunity to study at this university on an extra-budgetary basis.
