Detailed description

The classical-style building, built in Athens by the Austrian architect Theophil von Hansen, is named after the Greek millionaire and philanthropist Evangelis Zappas. Zappion was used for trade fairs, congresses, conferences and scientific symposiums, as well as for sports competitions and exhibitions. During the Second World War, the building housed a Greek military hospital. In 1981, the agreement on Greece's accession to the European Community was signed in Zappion, and in 2000, a meeting of the European Commission on the topic "Oceanology of the Eastern Mediterranean and the Black Sea" was held here.
