The apartment house of F.S. Rakhmanov
Detailed description
The construction of the house was completed in 1902, making it one of the first examples of Art Nouveau in Moscow. The facade is richly decorated with stucco– male and female faces, bay leaves, bows and rosettes. The blade of the second floor has a stucco composition of ears, thanks to which the building received the unofficial name "house with ears" in popular usage. The corner niches are arranged with pillars and carved heads. After the revolution, the Rakhmanov family continued to live in the building for several more years, but soon it was nationalized and transferred to the Unified Housing Stock. The spacious apartment has been redeveloped into many small rooms. In Soviet times, a fish shop with an aquarium and a showcase in the kitchen was opened on the ground floor of the courtyard.
