Fortress wall
Detailed description
The double fortress wall has been used for defensive purposes for 15 centuries. The length of the city wall is 3,600 meters. The southern and northern ramparts run parallel to each other at a distance of 300-400 meters. About 73 defensive towers were built along the ramparts, located almost at the same distance from each other. 46 towers have been preserved on the northern rampart. Nine of the original 14 gates have been preserved: two on the fortress, four on the southern wall and three on the northern wall. The stone gate was rebuilt in the Middle Ages.
