Solovetsky Stone
Detailed description
The Solovetsky Stone, a memorial in honor of the victims of the communist ruling regime in the USSR, was opened on October 30, 1990, on the memorial day of political prisoners in the USSR on the square near the Polytechnic Museum. The granite stone was delivered by members of the Memorial organization from the village of Solovetsky, from the Tamarin pier. During the Soviet period, the Solovetsky Archipelago was home to a concentration camp and then a special-purpose prison. The monument was designed by architect S. I. Smirnov and designer V. E. Korsi. Since 2007, on the eve of October 30, the names of the victims of the "Great Terror" have been read here.
