The mansion of Ya.V. Shchukin
Detailed description
Shchukin House is a Moscow manor house, famous since 1752. Captain Nikolai Shakhovskoy, nobleman Alexei Stolypin, Prince Vasily Khovansky, Prince Ivan Trubetskoy and others lived in it. In 1882, the house was purchased by merchant Ivan Shchukin, who immediately presented it to his son Sergei. He decorated the house with paintings that he had collected in a private gallery. The museum was established after the October Revolution based on his collection, and later became the first new museum of Western art. In 1948, the museum's funds were divided between the Hermitage and the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, and the mansion was transferred to the Ministry of Defense.
