Detailed description

The Odeon of Herodes Atticus is located on the southern slope of the Acropolis in Greece. It was built by Herod Atticus in 165 AD in honor of his wife Regilla. The odeon has the classical form of an ancient theater with 5,000 seats. You can only get inside during concerts and performances by paying for a ticket. The marble cladding of the seats for spectators and the stage was restored in the 1950s. The Odeon is one of the main stages of the annual Athens Festival. Maria Callas, the Bolshoi Ballet, Mikis Theodorakis, Nikos Portokaloglu and others performed on the stage of the Odeon. On July 21, 1973, the international beauty contest "Miss Universe 1973" was held in Odeon.
