Detailed description
The Acropolis Museum in Athens was opened on June 20, 2009. The museum was designed by Swiss architect Bernard Tschumi. The history of the museum began in 1874, when the first Acropolis Museum was built. The construction of the museum was postponed due to the discovery of archaeological finds. In 1989, an international design competition was held, which was won by Italian architects. The museum was scheduled to open in time for the 2004 Olympic Games, but construction was delayed.
