City estate of the Moscow Governor-General Z.G. Chernyshev
Detailed description
The estate was built in 1783 by architect Matvey Kazakov by decree of Count Chernyshev Zakhar Grigoryevich (1722-1784). After Chernyshev's death, the Estate was bought by the state, and was the permanent residence of the Governor-General of Moscow. For 250 years, the palace has changed more than one owner. After the revolution in 1917, the building became the Moscow City Council. In 1937, it was decided to move the building, at the same time it was decided to add two floors under the supervision of architect Dmitry Chechulin. Then a partial restoration of the rooms took place inside the palace. Soon the Moscow City Council was abolished, and the building became the residence of the mayor of Moscow, which it remains to this day.
