Merchant P.S. Pirogov's house
Detailed description
The house was originally built by merchant Voroshilov in 1789. In 1805, the new owner of the building, merchant P. S. Pirogov, completed the house from the south and east and added a second floor. In 1812, during the Patriotic War in Moscow, captured by Napoleon, it burned down. Over the next fifty years, it was restored, while the new look changed significantly. In 1865, a two-story staircase volume was added to the building. In addition to the residential part, the mansion also housed an apartment building. In the corner part of the house there were a wine shop, stationery and vegetable shops. During the Soviet years, organizations were involved in the mansion, and at the end of the 20th century there was a restaurant here. Unofficially, the building was named the "house with shadows" - until the last reconstruction, its facades were decorated with silhouettes of trees and ladies in ball gowns.
