The building of the Rostov State Drama Theater named after M. Gorky
Detailed description
The Gorky Drama Theater building, built between 1932 and 1935, is the result of the work of Academician of Architecture V.A. Shchuko in collaboration with Professor of Architecture V.G. Gelfreikh and Moscow architects I.E. Rozhin and Ya.B. Segal. The project, created in 1930-1932, was published in Russian and foreign publications on the history of architecture and presented in museums in Osaka and London in the form of models, as an example of the most magnificent and multifunctional theater building in the constructivist style. The grandiose capacity of the theater, consisting of a large hall with 2,200 seats and a concert hall with 900 seats, determined the high-rise volumes and scale of the building, as well as a bold combination of glazed and blind surfaces raised on a monumental basement with ramps.
