Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos in the Kremlin
Detailed description
The church was built in 1305. The church was renovated between 1692 and 1693. New drums were built, new windows were pierced, and a two-story pavilion was built on the south side.
At the end of the 18th century, the Pokrovskaya Tower was turned into a prison, and the Pokrovskaya Church into a prison temple.
Before World War II, a three-story walled bell tower (now defunct) adjoined the church from the southeast. During the war, the tower was severely damaged (the head, roof and part of the stones were lost).
The monument belongs to the type of church with 1 chapel, 1 chapel, 1 dome. The Chetverik church has side chapels in the south and north and a refectory in the west. The central cubic part of the church has an octagonal section topped by an octagonal drum with a head. Two pavilions from the south and north adjoin the refectory, which is an extension of the church. Another two-storey pavilion running parallel to the Kremlin wall is also adjacent to the refectory from the south. The facade is built simply. The octagonal shape of the church has flat shoulder blades at the corners, which are connected by straight ledges. There are large rectangular windows between the shoulder blades.
