Bunker-42 and a walk along Taganka
From 5 000₽ per group
Description
Type: Single-day activity
Duration: 3 hours
* Two kilometers from the Kremlin, in the thickness of Tagansky Hill, at a depth of more than 60 meters, there is a unique object that has no analogues in the world. The entrance to it is almost invisible: a protective dome made of concrete is hidden in the frame of an ordinary two-story house with "fake" windows. Bunker-42 ("CHZ-293", "GO-42") was built at the turn of the 1940s-50s as a strategic communications center and a possible shelter for the highest command staff.
During Stalin's lifetime, due to the development of nuclear weapons, the bunker was adapted to the conditions of nuclear war. For three decades, until 1986, various types of troops were controlled from it, including, probably, strategic bombers carrying nuclear weapons on board. In the late 1980s, reconstruction of the bunker was planned, but it was not carried out due to lack of funding. The facility was completely declassified in 2000. Since 2006, it has been a Museum of the Cold War.
Before the excursion to Bunker-42, we will walk around the neighborhood of M. "Taganskaya" — the streets of the so-called "Shviva hill". Let's talk about the Taganka Theater, see two magnificent temples — St. Nicholas on Bolvanovka and the Assumption in Gonchary, visit the recently opened Museum of the Russian Diaspora. Let's find out why two huge "Stalinist" houses were built on the quiet and narrow Goncharnaya Street.
