Embankment Chambers
Detailed description
This place was built in the 19th years of the eighteenth century. It was one of the favorite places of the Krutitsky metropolitans. The chambers are located on the high bank of the Moskva River. After the transfer of the compound to the military department, the chambers began to be used as military barracks and places of detention for those arrested. In the 34th year of the nineteenth century, the philosopher Alexander Herzen was imprisoned in the Krutitsky courtyard, who was arrested for his free-thinking socialist ideas.
