Count Orlov 's House
Detailed description
Count Orlov's house is located opposite the Zoological Museum. The building was built at the end of the XVIII century on the site of the chambers of the boyar Khitrovo. The main house was rebuilt several times. First, in 1792, a second floor was added, and then in 1799, two-story "porches" were built between two risalites in the courtyard, as well as a lobby. In 1830, the house was rebuilt after a fire and a third floor was added to it. The facade of the building is precisely symmetrical from the street. The center was highlighted with a portico of four pilasters of the Corinthian (Ionic) order. Bas-reliefs on antique motifs were applied between the pilasters. The house had a huge dance hall, a grotto and the house church of St. Vladimir. The Princes of Meshchersk owned the building before the revolution.
