Apartment houses of the Partnership of Petrovsky trade lines
Detailed description
Two houses opposite each other were built in 1876. The society after which the houses are named was founded by entrepreneur and philanthropist V.I. Yakunchikov. With the construction of these two apartment buildings, Petrovsky Lines Street appeared, which did not exist before. The style of the buildings suggests a classicized eclecticism. Both houses are mirror images of each other. The upper part of the buildings was rented out for apartments. The Rossiya Hotel was located in one of the buildings. The area in front of the hotel entrance was originally conceived as a semicircular niche and was the compositional center of the architectural complex. The Znanie bookstore was opened in another building at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. After the October Revolution, the southern building was named the "Second House of Unions." Today, this building houses the four-star Budapest Hotel, the Tamerlane tea house restaurant and the five-star Peter I Hotel.
