Building of the Russian Academy of Sciences
Detailed description
The Academy of Sciences building, built in 1783-1789, was designed by architect J. Quarenghi, made with strict classical elements. The main facade, facing the Neva River, is decorated with a monumental portico consisting of eight Ionic columns. The interiors of the building include a grand staircase with a mosaic panel "The Battle of Poltava", created by Mikhail Lomonosov in 1762-1764, as well as a conference room. Today, the St. Petersburg Scientific Center of the Academy of Sciences is located here.
