Wine warehouses of the Eliseev Brothers trading house
Detailed description
The two-storey stone warehouses were built in the first quarter of the 19th century. The architectural style is defined as classicism. Merchant P.E. Eliseev opened a wine shop here in 1824. In 1862, he started building wine cellars. Initially, they were one-story stone rooms. Oak barrels for wine were stored in them. In 1868-1869, the warehouses were expanded according to the project of N.P. Grebenka. Each type of wine was stored in a separate room. In 1938-1939, the building was rebuilt by order of the State Optical Institute, the project of which was developed by architects B.S. Rebortovich and A.I. Gegello. Sculptural emblems of science and technology appeared in the composition of the building. Later, the building housed the Museum of consumer cooperation. There are shops and offices here now.
