Church building of the Intercession Hospital
Detailed description
In 1858, the Pokrovsky Community of Sisters of Mercy was established, and in 1859 it opened its doors. A plot on Vasilyevsky Island was allocated for her needs, on which small stone and wooden wings were built with the participation of architect G. H. Stegeman. The hospital complex included a department of nurses, a department for infants and young children, a small shelter for women in labor, a school for boys under 12, a surgical hospital, an outpatient clinic and a pharmacy. They organized a school for the training of felsherits, which was later turned into a girls' gymnasium in 1878.
