The Erarta Museum in St. Petersburg is the largest private museum of contemporary art. The museum building was built in 1951 for the local district committee, in Soviet times it housed the Research Institute of Synthetic Rubber. Contemporary art is represented by works from 1945 to the present day. More than 2,800 contemporary artists are gathered here, including paintings, graphics, sculpture, installations, and video art. The collection is based on the works of St. Petersburg artists, the museum is looking for talents all over the country. The museum also hosts major exhibitions and field projects around the country and abroad. The purpose of the museum is to foster a taste for contemporary art through different directions.
