House of the People 's Commissariat of Communications
Detailed description
The huge apartment building is a monument to the global changes in Moscow in the 1930s. The building was designed by architect D.D. Bulgakov in 1937-1944 for the staff of the People's Commissariat of Communications of the USSR. The facade overlooks a quiet square to the side of the house. As elements of architecture, one can observe a majestic ornament on the facade, a decorative arch on the side of the square with repeated images of sickles and hammers. Before the war, the city authorities wanted to build another highway in this place, so they designed the building so that it could be majestically viewed from several sides at once. The house was built in 1939.
