V.I. Lenin's Mausoleum
Detailed description
Lenin's Mausoleum is located on Red Square near the Cathedral of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos on the Moat. The body of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin has been lying in a transparent sarcophagus since 1924. At first, the mausoleum was wooden, and in 1930 a granite one was erected. Stalin's sarcophagus was located next to Lenin in 1953, but in 1961 it was decided to bury it in the necropolis near the Kremlin wall. In 1941, Lenin's sarcophagus also left the mausoleum, due to the approach of German troops and aviation to Moscow. Lenin's sarcophagus was in Tyumen until 1945, after which it was returned to Moscow.
