Narva Triumphal Gate Memorial Museum
Detailed description
The monument in honor of Russia's victory in the war with Germany was erected in 1834. Originally there was an arch made of wood, but later the triumphal gate was built of brick, which was lined with copper. The theme of victory sounds throughout the decor of the gate. In the niches are figures of Russian heroes in chain mail and helmets; along the frieze are reliefs with banners and victory trumpets; gilded inscriptions on the attic and on the sides of the arch inform about the places of battles; The monument is crowned by a chariot with the figure of Niki, drawn by six horses. In 1939, the gates became part of the collection of the State Museum of Urban Sculpture. In 1978, it was decided to create exhibitions inside the monument, which are dedicated to the Patriotic War of 1812 and the history of the creation of the gate itself.
