The Vatican City, the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church and the residence of the Pope, is an ecclesiastical state and the smallest state in Europe both in size and population. Despite its tiny size, the state is home to 11 notable museums, including the Michelangelo-decorated Sistine Chapel (perhaps its greatest gem), St. Peter's Basilica, and St. Peter's Square.
