Castel Sant'Angelo
Detailed description
Located on the right bank of the Tiber River, guarding one of Rome's oldest bridges, Castel Sant'Angelo is an imposing cylindrical building originally commissioned by Emperor Hadrian as a mausoleum for himself and his family. Later it was transformed into a fortress, a papal residence and a prison. It is now a museum offering scenic views of Rome.
