The mansion of Princess V.F. Gagarina
Detailed description
The modest classical-style building was built in the early 1740s by an unknown architect; after Auguste Montferrand and his wife Eliza purchased the building in the 1834-1840s, the house was rebuilt according to Montferrand's plans. The building was built of stone. It was a one-story building with a high basement and a width of 7 axes. There was a gate on the right side. The owner was Captain Peter Timofeevich Savelov. Currently, the mansion is used as the composer's house. Until 1918, the mansion belonged to Gagarina. It is often listed in registers as "Gagarina's House", after the last name of the mansion's owner. Marble and carved fireplaces, oak and walnut panels have been preserved to this day. The oak-paneled lobby with a white marble staircase and a large hall with an oak gallery are the best preserved.
