Detailed description

Construction of the building began in 1880 by order of Ivan Grigoryevich Firsanov, a major industrialist, and was completed after his death by his daughter Vera Firsanova. The house has a decorated facade and carved windows in the neo-Russian style, complemented by cast-iron gates. Soon a house for widows and orphans was opened there, which was nicknamed Firsanovsky. Part of the building was later given over to Moscow's first school for blind children, by which time two more floors had been added.
