Nikolskaya Tower
Detailed description
The corner tower of the Novodevichy Monastery is called the Tower of St. Nicholas. The tower was built in the 1680s, as was the rest of the building complex. Tsarevna Sofya Alekseevna supervised its construction. According to the preserved historical documents, architect Potapov was responsible for the construction. In the eighteenth century, a church was built in the tower. To this day, not only the tower itself has been well preserved, but also the nearby Streltsy guardhouse, where the Streltsy guards who guarded the monastery lived.
