Timiryazev State Biological Museum
Detailed description
The Biological Museum was established on April 24, 1922. It is located in a former 19th-century estate owned by Peter Ivanovich Shchukin, a collector. The complex was built in the pseudo-Russian style. The first building was built in 1892-93 by B.V. Freudenberg. The house is an ancient Russian tower with a hipped porch, weathervanes in the form of flags and double-headed eagles. There was a balcony on the east side. The facade is decorated with tiles. In 1896-1898, A.E. Erichson rebuilt the second building also in a pseudo-Russian spirit. There is a tunnel leading from one house to another. The latest construction was a one-story building, which housed archival and storage facilities. It was designed by architect F.N. Kolbe in 1905. At the beginning of the twentieth century, the Museum of Russian Antiquities was located here, and since 1934 the entire complex has been placed at the disposal of the Biological Museum. Timiryazev. Entrance to the museum is paid.
