Metropolitan Corps
Detailed description
The Metropolitan building (Bishop's house) is the building of the western part of the monastery complex of the Holy Trinity Alexander Nevsky Lavra. Built in 1758, it was two-storeyed, with one-story wings with corner turrets attached to it. In 1819, another floor was added. The facades of the building differ from other buildings of the monastery, they are more richly architecturally decorated. The facade looks very festive because of the curly architraves, columns and pilasters. In 1918, the building of the building was transferred to the needs of the People's Commissariat, and only in 1996 the premises of the St. Petersburg Diocese of the Metropolitan Building were returned. Currently, this historic building in the Metropolitan Building houses the St. Petersburg Diocesan Administration and the reception room of the ruling bishop - Metropolitan of St. Petersburg and Ladoga. This building has a three-hundred-year history, the house is a monument of civil architecture of the 18th century.
