M.O. Kulakov's apartment house
Detailed description
The building was commissioned by merchant Mikhail Kulakov in the 10s of the XX century. The Kulaks owned several buildings in Rostov, it was a well-known merchant dynasty. The apartment building on Bolshaya Sadovaya Street belongs to the Art Nouveau style. Its characteristic features can be seen in the smooth curves of the roof and window openings, semicircular projections – bay windows. The building is four storeys high with a basement plastered with grey granite. The upper floors are separated by a frieze and painted pale yellow. There are many decorative details on the facade. The balconies are equipped with wrought iron fences. After the revolution, the building was nationalized. In Soviet times, its first floor was occupied by the Don Vegetables store. Now the house is recognized as an architectural monument and is used as a residential apartment building.
